The missing package

The missing package sent from the USA by my best friend Hanna finally turned up.

Basically, what happened was that Hanna had sent me a christmas present in good time, with priority mail, which i understand from her wasn't a cheap option! However annoyingly, and i think Royal Mail in my country may be to blame for this. The package finally reached me on Tuesday 3rd January which is weeks later! Unfortunatley, though it killed me, today was the first day i could pick it up and left work early to ensure i could get it in time!!

I have to say though, that although it was a pain not getting it at christmas, it was really nice to have a package to open up having had the kind of day i have!! I was all excited when i opened it up because there were all these little presents inside just waiting to be opened! Hanna got me some really cool stuff, including these tree decorations...i've bunched them all together on the tree so i could take a picture of them all! There is one cute one with a cat on it that looks a little like my cat Monty, and it has Monty written on it! It was really nice to get decorations, because i didn't really have any of my own being my first christmas in my own house, so they were kind of borrowed this year. But now i have a few to build on for next year!

Hanna also got me a couple of cat themed books, 2 little Yankee Candle jars - farmhouse apple (one of my faves!) and white chocolate mint, which i just can't handle the fact that you can't eat it!! Also i got a shirt that says "chocolate - the catnip of the female world!" - so true!!

God i hate busy supermarkets.

Yesterday i made the terrible mistake of visiting the aforementioned place. I don't know why the fact that being a public holiday didn't ring alarm bells in my head and tell me to stay the hell away. The fact is, i still went anyway and it was shopping hell. People were absolutley everywhere. It was like everyone was on a family outing!

I only went in out of boredom and fto get a few totally non essential items...just to get myself out of the house i thought...yeah...great. What  actually happened was i got stuck in the '10 items or less' queue to nowhere. Then you stand there with the basket handles digging into your hands because the basket is heavy, you keep swapping the basket over to spread pain (and by the time you reach the checkout your hands are pink with soreness with the handle indentations on them). You stand there wishing you'd have got a small trolley, even though you know its too big. I then wondered if it still counted if you had a trolley with 10 items or less even though it has a basket sign...hmmm

You stand there with nothing better to do than analyse the baskets of the people ahead of you. The guy next to me had two boxes of luxury chocolate chip cookies, and a packet of bacon. I was wondering if he wanted those items enough to stand in a queue for god knows how long, but then i looked down at my own basket and realised that the people may have been saying the same about my basket containing a small bunch of flowers, a bottle of diet coke and 2 tins of luxury cat food (hey i promised Monty i'd bring him back something nice to eat!). And not only all this, but there was a guy ahead of me who had a basket that must have had at least 15 items! Not fair.Thats breaking the rules!

Anyway, I have two points of advice to give.

• Firstly if you go shopping, do just that. It is not the place to conduct your social life. Do not do as one annoying couple did. Do not stand in the middle of the aisle whilst people are trying to get past - for 15 minutes discussing your recent house renovations. I swear, when they eventually parted company, they ended by inviting the friends they had just met to come and see their loft conversion (my American pals - this is an attic converted into a proper room!). I'd run the other way rather that enjoy visiting someones loft conversion...and was that so important that they felt the need to p*** everyone off by standing completely in the way of everything and everyone?!
• Secondly, don't go shopping. Do as i do, shop online where at all possibly. I hate shopping now, having to wheel the trolley amongst the people on the busiest shopping days in line with my days off work. I'm stitting here,relaxed and waiting for the nice man from Tesco to bring the shopping to my door, no pain, and several hours of shopping time saved. I pick all the items out online, and don't overspend with all the 'that sounds good, i'll buy that' items that sends your shopping bill higher!
