Somebody called me 'abnormal' at work yesterday...ok so the guy that said it is actually one of my favourite people in the office, and he meant it sort of affectionatley. Of course my reply was "Thank god for that - i would hate to be normal!".
Most of my colleagues also heard this conversation, but you know....no one disagreed with him. It could be the incident that happened a few weeks ago...
It was innocent enough...i phoned my parents who had been on holiday recently and reached my dad. He told me that my mum had gone out and our cat Purrcy was going mad at the bathroom door as he was obviously convinced that was where she was really hiding - he had post holiday seperation issues. As i was talking to him i could hear Purrcy meowing and complaining like mad. "Is that Purrcy?" i asked. Yes, my dad replied. He put the phone on speaker phone, and said "call him" so without hesitsation i started saying "purrcy....puuuurrrrrcy.." you know, in that voice you use to call your pet. Anyway, Purrcy returned the conversation...and that was that.
I got off the phone, and the guy that sits opposite me said "who is Purrcy?!" I must have gone bright red as i realised that my conversation wasn't entirely private. I had to admit that i was talking to my cat on speakerphone, and the more i tried to explain why i was talking to my cat on speaker phone, the worse it sounded. "Oh" he said. He is a very reserved kind of a person, and must have been thinking how strange i am..and not in a good way...!
I relayed this scenario to a few people in the office who i was prepared to admit it too and who expect me to do weird stuff! One of which was the guy that said i was abnormal incidently!
Its interesting. Those who had cats, thought i was perfectly fine, and admitted that they actually talk to their cats quite frequently...the non pet owners just thought it was all weird....and especially me. Oh well, i can live with that...
